Windows Phone BSOD Errors!

In this article I’ll be showing the different types of Windows Phone Startup Errors, particular the BSODs (Blue and Black)! At the end of the day, Windows is Windows, even if it’s running on a mobile phone.

1: Blue Screen with Sad Face

This screen will only appear at startup during the Windows Boot Manager sequence, if the boot manager can’t find the startup files (winload.efi + additional drivers)

2: Regular Windows BSOD

Interestingly enough, the Windows BSOD is intentionally disabled via a system registry parameter, so if the system decides to blue screen, you won’t see anything and the device will simply reboot. If the registry parameter ‘DisplayDisabled’ is set from ‘1’ to ‘0’, you will see the regular blue screen in the case of a system failure.

3: Windows UpdateOS Failure

This error will appear if a Windows Phone is attempting to update the OS and the update fails. This is also another widely known screen in relation to Windows Phone startup failures!
